Holiday Tech Safety Tips:
1. Be cautious with holiday shopping links.
Avoid clicking on deals from unknown emails or pop-ups — especially those that seem “too good to be true.” Stick to official websites or verified retailer apps.
2. Monitor shipping updates closely.
Scammers often send fake “package delivery” alerts. If you’re unsure about a message, go directly to the carrier’s website instead of clicking the link.
3. Use secure payment methods.
Skip the debit card when shopping online. Credit cards, virtual cards, or digital wallets (like Apple Pay or PayPal) offer better fraud protection.
4. Don’t ignore device updates.
Whether it’s your phone, laptop, or office firewall, install those pending software and security updates before the year ends. They often patch critical vulnerabilities.
5. Avoid public Wi-Fi for anything sensitive.
When traveling or shopping out and about, use your mobile hotspot or a VPN — especially if you’re accessing bank accounts or internal company apps.
6. Keep an eye on access.
This is a great time to review who still has access to company files, systems, or shared drives. Offboarding reviews are often missed during the rush to wrap up the year.
7. Turn off what you're not using.
If you're closing the office or working remotely, make sure unused systems are shut down or secured. This reduces attack surfaces and conserves energy.
8. Be mindful of year-end phishing.
Expect more scams around “donation drives,” “new tax documents,” or “holiday bonuses.” Slow down and verify before clicking or replying.
